Boondi Raita is a delicious dip that’s a popular North Indian dish. Crunchy dahi boondi yogurt dip is perfect as an accompaniment to pulao, biryani and parathas.

Cool and refreshing raitas beautifully complement any meal. Come summer, and dahi raita is a staple item in my everyday menu.

Indian summers are swelteringly hot. The heat and humidity can make everyday life pretty uncomfortable and you just crave something light and cool to refresh you.  I also have this chilled yogurt dip with khara boondi at the ready – it’s my go-to summertime dip!

Boondi is a deep-fried Indian snack food made of gram flour. Spiced boondi or Khara Boondi is available in local supermarkets. These tiny, crunchy yellow pearls of deliciousness dunked in thick creamy yogurt are absolutely yum! You can serve crunchy boondi yogurt dip with any Indian flatbread or flavoured rice like biryani or pulao. Or just relax with a cool and refreshing bowl of creamy, cool dahi bhoondi raita. It’s healthy, filing and delicious and makes for a perfect summer snack.

Bhoondi ka raita is fast, easy and totally bliss. There’s nothing complicated about this beautifully soothing raita recipe. The key ingredients are thick and creamy curd, crisp khara boondi and Indian spices. One of my favourite things to do with dahi is to make raitas or dips. Boondi Raita Recipe is totally worth trying.

  • Firstly, take thick yogurt in a mixing bowl and beat lightly with a whisk or spoon to a creamy texture.

  • Then, blend in the aromatic spices – black salt, red chilli powder, cumin powder and chaat masala.

  • Next, add crunchy fried boondi and freshly chopped coriander leaves. Mix well.

  • Now, transfer the boondi ka raita to a serving bowl.

  • Serve boondi raita with Alu Paratha or Vegetable Pulao. Or just relish it as an afternoon snack. You can serve boondi dahi raita chilled or at room temperature.

If serving chilled, then add the boondi just before serving to retain the crunch.

Ingredients

  • Plain Curd/yogurt – ¾ cup
  • Black salt -1/4 tsp
  • Red chilli powder – 1/8 tsp
  • Chaat masala – 1/8 tsp
  • Roasted cumin powder – 1/8 tsp
  • Coriander leaves – 1 tsp
  • Boondi – ½ cup

Instructions

  • To make this popular raita recipe, firstly, take yogurt in a bowl and whisk it smooth.
  • Then, sprinkle black salt, roasted cumin powder, red chilli powder and chaat masala. Blend all the ingredients together.
