Radish Greens Stir Fry | Mullangi Aaku Vepudu | Mullangi Keerai Poriyal

Radish greens stir fry is a crunchy, flavourful dish made with sautéed radish leaves, chopped garlic and topped with grated coconut. The simple dish is very healthy and truly big on flavour.

Radish Greens Stir Fry

Radish leaves are rich sources of protein, calcium and Vitamin C. They are effective in treating jaundice, kidney & skin disorders and fighting cancer.

Radish Greens Stir Fry Recipe:

Tender, vibrant green radish leaves (Mullangi Aakulu) are packed with nutrients. Sauteed radish greens makes for a perfect side dish with Rice and Dal.

Radish leaves are edible leafy greens that are great as a tasty side dish on their own when lightly pan fried.

  • To make Mullangi Aaku Vepudu, firstly wash and clean the radish leaves. (Since radishes are root vegetables, the leaves have to be thoroughly cleaned off the dirt. So run the leaves under water or immerse them in a large bowl filled with cold water for a few minutes. Move the leaves around with your hand so as to remove as much dirt as possible.
  • Also chop the onion and chilli finely. Grate fresh coconut. Next coarsely pound jeera in a pestle and set aside.

  • Then pour a little oil in a kadai. Once the oil gets hot, put in a dry red chilli, mustard seeds, urad dal, asafoetida and saute over low-medium heat.
  • Then toss in the garlic pods and sauté for a few seconds.
  • Next add the chopped onion and green chilli. Fry for 1-2 minutes till the chopped onion turns pink.

  • Now add the finely chopped radish leaves. Season with salt, mix well, cover and cook till the leaves wilt and soften.

  • Then tip in the freshly grated coconut and crushed jeera. Combine all the ingredients well and remove.
  • Serve Radish leaves stir-fry with Rice and dal.

Ingredients

  • Radish leaves – 2 cups
  • Onion - 1 large
  • Chilli - 1
  • Coconut – 1/3 cup
  • Garlic – 8 pods
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • Oil - 1 tsp
  • Salt as required
  • Mustard - 1 tsp
  • Urad dal - 1 tsp
  • Red Chilli - 1
  • Asafoetida - a pinch

Instructions

  • Wash and thoroughly clean radish leaves and chop finely. Finely chop the onions and green chilli. Grate the coconut. Pound cumin seeds coarsely in a pestle and keep aside.
  • Add oil in a pan. When hot, add a broken red chilli, urad dal, mustard seeds, hing and fry well.
  • Add garlic pods, sauté, add onions and green chilli, fry for a couple of minutes till onions turn pink.
  • Add radish leaves and salt and cook covered till done.
  • Add grated coconut and crushed cumin seeds, combine well and remove.
  • Serve Radish leaves stir-fry with Rice and dal.
