Fish fry with Reef Cod – fresh fish pieces infused with masalas and shallow fried till cooked through – tastes really awesome! This fish recipe uses very basic Indian spices.
To make this tasty Kerala Fish Recipe, firstly wash and clean the fish. (I always treat fish with vinegar or lemon juice to get rid of the smell. Just drizzle some lemon juice/vinegar and allow the fish to sit for a few minutes, before washing again).
Then pat dry with a napkin.
Next, put mustard seeds, garlic pods, ginger, chilli powder, turmeric powder, pepper and salt in a mixie jar and grind to a smooth paste. Then stir in lime juice or vinegar.
Make sure that the prepared masala isn’t too watery.
Now rub both sides of the fish well with this mixture.
Cover the marinated fish and let it sit for 30 minutes to allow the flavours to seep in.
Heat oil in a frying pan. Place the marinated fish pieces in the pan. Shallow fry the fish over medium heat for 4-5 minutes till both sides are browned.
Remove with a slotted spoon and place in a serving plate.
Serve hot Hamour Fish Fry as a side dish with Daal-Chawal (lentils and rice).
